Understanding Grief as a Sacred Passage


I began with a truth many overlook: grief is not exclusive to death. We grieve identities, homes, relationships, even past versions of ourselves. I’ve felt that ache—in my menopause journey, and in the echoes of my time working within the prison system. These are not just stories, they are sacred invitations to heal.


Grief is transformation. And like any initiation, it brings lessons in every layer of our being.


The Five Stages: Not a Ladder, but a Spiral


We unpacked the five stages of grief—denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance—knowing they don’t move in a neat line. They loop, they revisit. Denial numbs. Anger boils. Bargaining pleads. Depression weighs. And acceptance… well, it softens the edges, offering peace without erasing pain.


Each stage leaves a fingerprint on your body: sleepless nights, tight chests, aching backs. On your emotions: guilt, anxiety, irritability. And on your spirit: foggy intuition and silence where guidance once spoke.


But there's another side: healing.
